About This Quote

Since the birth of the Young Adult genre, there have been many definition of what qualifies a book to be under this genre. Personally, I believe that “Young Adult” is an arbitrary title that means the book "Can be enjoyed by anyone/Has a main character who’s not quite an adult/Isn’t really boring. If the main character is older than 21 or younger than 16, I would say it is a Young Adult novel. People who are older than 21 or younger than 16 are considered adults in society, so why can't a book written for them? When reading is based on the characters age group, it takes away from the story. If your adult and you see a book about a 12 year old and think to yourself: "I should read that because it's probably good for me," then you will probably be disappointed.
